What started as a way to support his wife in transforming her health, turned into an overwhelming personal victory for Vernon Koonce, Sr.
When Vernon first took on The Challenge two years ago, he set a goal to lose a few pounds of fat and build a few pounds of muscle. Three Challenges later, he lost about 25 lbs. and built 5 lbs. of lean muscle… all “at the ripe old age of 61.”
“I feel fantastic and always get compliments on how good I look for my age,” said Vernon, a Vi Regional Director who’s also a personal trainer. “ViSalus has literally changed my life and the lives of my entire family. It has simply been amazing.” So amazing, in fact, that his whole family has lost over 300 lbs. combined on The Challenge.
Perhaps as equally inspiring—and surprising—as a 61-year-old being at his prime is that Vernon and his daughter, Bianca Metamoros-Koonce, both entered the Vi Model competition. They did so in hopes of becoming the first father-daughter Challenge Champions while working to achieve Vernon’s goal of making Vi history as the oldest-ever Vi Model.
Inspiration to a Generation
“I want to be an inspiration to others my age and show them that life doesn’t have to slow down after age 50 or 60,” Vernon explained. “It can be whatever you make it with hard work, dedication, proper nutrition, exercise, a healthy lifestyle, and of course… ViSalus. I can truly say that I am a product of the product.”
Vernon’s story also goes to show that The Challenge really is for everybody and every body—no matter the age.
PROJECT 10™ Challenge goals can be (or include) weight loss, building lean muscle or improving energy and endurance. Every participant should consider his or her personal circumstances and create goals that are both reasonable and achievable. ViSalus discourages rapid and extreme weight loss, which can actually be unhealthy and emphasizes that safe and sustainable weight loss is never achieved without exercise and sensible eating. Persons with preexisting medical conditions should consult a healthcare professional before embarking on any fitness, health or weight-loss program.
