Being a mother is one of the BEST things ever! No words can explain the many wonderful feelings that come with being a mom. Of the many `best parts` of being a mother, taking care of the family and seeing the kids grow up to be healthier, disciplined and productive adults are priorities. Believe me as a mom of 6 and being pulled in different directions I had to learn the hard way that you have to take care of yourself FIRST!!!

Nowadays, most mothers tend to ignore their health while trying to cope up with the fast-paced world. No matter how busy or how demanding your job might be, mothers should make their health a priority and teach their kids to do the same.

Here are a few health care tips that mothers can follow to keep themselves fit and healthy:

Healthy diet

In a perfect scenario we would ask our kids to eat properly, home cook all our meals and never bring into our homes all the sugary things…but, in this fast paced world it get’s complicated and so we tend to reach for the “quick fixes” like fast food . Find time to food prep together maybe just 2-3 hours set aside a week get your family involved and make snacks that are grab and go so you and your clan don’t resort to the bad choices out there.

Choose a healthy diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, that provides essential vitamins and minerals, fibers and other important substances for good health. Include whole-grains, lean sources of protein like fish. Limit intake of foods and drinks high in calories, fat, sugar and salt. Get moving

Include physical activity in your daily routine to lead a healthier life. This will help you in maintaining an ideal weight as well as lower your risk of diabetes, heart diseases, stroke, cancer, etc. Get the whole family involved As a personal trainer I often give “challenges” to my clients to take home to their families like planking, steps, squats, sit-ups that they can do right at home. Believe me, my kids have been my BEST accountability partners!

Sleep well

A good night’s rest is important for people of all ages to stay in good shape. Sleep deprivation can result in a number of chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity and depression. Set a time to unplug from electronics and TV an hour before you sleep and you will see what a difference it makes!

Manage stress

Mild to moderate stress is considered to be a part of life. But when stress is severe, it can lead to depression and overwhelms your ability to take care of your home. Long term exposure to stress can give rise to serious health problems. Mental health is just as important as physical health! Take time for you

It’s easy to get lost being the awesome mom you are on top of all the other things we do!
